Hampshire, UK: 5th August 2024: New research from Zero Carbon Academy (ZCA) finds that global cleantech investment looks set to break new records in 2024, largely driven by contributions made towards clean energy companies.
ZCA’s latest report Cleantech: Market investment & sector outlook 2024 finds that funding into cleantech companies reached a record $468 billion in 2023, with this heavily skewed towards the energy segment. This represented an increase of 198% when compared with the $157 billion of investment achieved in 2022, making it the highest levels of annual funding into the cleantech sector to date.
The report finds that the cleantech market will continue to be dominated by North America. In 2019 the region accounted for a third of investment, and by 2023 this share had grown to just under 50%.
Research author Lauren Foye commented: “In 2023 the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) played a pivotal role in driving investment into clean energy and cleantech innovation within the United States. The tax breaks and incentives it has brought have significantly helped in driving growth in this sector. Promisingly, this looks set to continue, where 2024 is already proving a strong year for cleantech investment in the US.”
In fact, ZCA’s research discovered that globally total investment in 2024 is up by $45.1 billion (29.7%) in the first five months of this year compared with the same period in 2023. To showcase the innovation and disruptive players in the cleantech space, for the first time ZCA has produced its ‘Cleantech top 50’ product. This groundbreaking analysis reveals the top 50 cleantech businesses set to disrupt the market throughout 2024.
